While AI infiltrates every part of the creative process, those who are committed to human expression have found innovative ways to make craft and artistry endlessly attractive. Creative director Jason Pattinson is such a person. He is behind Split offA new online store with handshake types printed by hand that are digitized and available as downloads with high resolution.
Currently, FLECKLED contains more than 150 fonts printed on a Columbian Press from the 1860S, with more on the road. All are available in capital letters, lowercase or figures with extra ornaments and edges over countless styles. Maintaining the characteristic grain and warmth of the wood, each is also supplied in two versions: one with a thicker, more saturated ink and another with a lighter, more sad feeling.

“The small defects in the hand -cut wooden blocks give a book print its distinctive character and permanent attraction,” says Pattinson. “Visible defects, timber stores, planning patterns and wear effects have been balanced by different levels of ink and pressure to achieve the optimal dense and distracting versions.”
Pattinson and his team have been working for more than two decades on digitizing book pressure. He has collaborated with printers and dealers in Italy, Sweden, Germany, Argentina, the US and the UK, where he is located.
“We are in discussion with a few retired printers who have a number of really remarkable private collections, investigate opportunities to digitize and sublicememen their fonts and different assets to expand our online source,” Pattinson said Design week.
As FLECKLED grows, it makes the medium more available and offers an alternative to AI generation for those who may be interested in the book pressure aesthetics without access to a press.
Pattison launched the store because he wanted to “make this timeless assets available for a new generation of creatives.” He shares with colossal, “It fulfills me with great confidence that is overwhelmed in a world by AI, the design community is determined in authenticity!”
