Remember those drops of pillow scene Polly came by?? That bed had eleven pillows on it. And look, that was the style for a while, but I might have brought a knife too. I am pretty sure that my own parents had about six on their bed most of my childhood. If that is still your thing and you love it, then I love it for you. No shame. Now, at the current design moment, it feels like using a decorative pillows “off”, which, at least for me, is not my preference. Is it “ad chic” why of course! Could it be a bit nicer? Why yes of course. I want to argue for this simple way to add a little Zhuzh to my bed, whether it is a pattern, texture and/or a nice shape. But whatever I want is that it takes as little time as possible to make my bed. About 10 years ago Emily wrote for the first time about her love for the single lumbar kisses and everyone was on board! One long pillow that would look like your bed sagging and only half a second would last to put on or rise? The dream. And although we still love the “One Pillow Wonder”, I personally am really in the two-fer. Two different pillows that each bring something different from your bedding game. It is what is currently happening on my bed, so I can testify to the total convenience to take them out and turn it on again. In short, I want us all to keep things easy, airy, cool, but with a little bit more variation.
I thought I would return some old school cushion combinations to a lot of different styles to help you imagine what your bed could ask 🙂 My bed pillows really make me laugh every time I look at them and that is how I want everyone to feel. A small change to make your day a little more beautiful. Does it seem crazy? Certainly. But don’t joke either.

1. Mint Green & Red Pom Pom Trim + irregular dots kissing | 2. Embroidered cushion cover + Bettie tapenade Yellow Velvet Round Thurg Pillow | 3. Luna Lumbar Pillow + New -Zeelandse collection Wool Thurlow pillow
Let’s start with a bang! I know these are quite specific, but people have bold personalities. I really love the color coin because it feels fresh and fun, but also does not overpower in a bad way. I also think that design elements such as brushes or fringe add immediate obstinacy and softness to a different fat -printed design. Another deep love of mine is a camel colored sheep fur cushion cushion. That small ball is not cheap, but it is so fun and versatile. That kind of pillow is one that you could use with almost every style that you want to try. 10/10.

1. Velvet disk cushions | 2. Shorn Camel Brown Sheepskin fur cushion + Mariata Cushion | 3. Tiger jacquard pillow + mauree velvet round pillow
I have always designed my bedrooms with a little more “romance” and “softness”. I mean, they lend themselves a bit to that, right? For some, that can mean a completely white/neutral color palette, while others prefer a moody appearance. Anyway, some playful pillows like these would only contribute to the vibes. Emily used one of those disc pads in her primary bedroom unveiling! She only chose one with a long lumbar, but I love the idea of choosing two colors of the same pillow to keep it easy. These also have a really great texture on the sides and act as a great piece of cloth for your laptop. And see? Another camel fur cushion. Chic but fun! Then combined with that carpet-inspired lumbar, it’s a dream combination for me. Oh, and in case you didn’t notice it, ruffles are very inside!

1. Velvet reversible animal cushion + block pressure linen cushion | 2. Green Block Print Pillow + Liza Thumow | 3. Indian hand block stamped linen print cushion cover + velvet pipe cushion
Block Print has been around for thousands of years and is in no way “new”, but it is difficult not to notice the beautiful revival that it has (for example, the Fariha wallpaper!). Emily also played with the idea of using block printing fabric for her kitchen café curtains. If you look at Etsy, there are so many beautiful cushion options to choose from when you are looking for options. I really loved these three. I also wanted to combine with a velvet accent cushion to make the combos feel rich. Heaven is the limit on the amount of combos and colors from which you can choose.

1. Hi-Lo Checker Velvet Pillow + Patchwork Lumbar Pillow Forest | 2. Honeycomb Silk Pillow Land + Carys Contrast linen cushion | 3. Valentina Velvet Fringe Pillow + Holly Cushion Cover
Some of you may disagree, but they feel a little less “fat” than the first set of combo’s. So although not quiet, I think it’s great how they would bring a solid visual punch to your bed. Emily has and likes that multicolored velvet lumbar pillow and cannot recommend enough. For a much neutral option, Combo #2 is a great one and I love the contrast piping on the Linen Lumbale. It also comes in other colors! The Patchwork cushion in Combo #1 is so beautiful and made by a B corp that makes all their products ethically and is generally a beautiful and beautiful brand. Go and see them if you haven’t done that yet.

1. Viola Long Lumbar Pillow + Luna Boucle Reversible animal pillow | 2. Oversized structured boucle dobber cushion + plaid inside/outside lumbar lid cushion | 3. Covered pillow with surrounding + two -tone thick linen brush cushion
Of course I had to do a blue -oriented set of combos. Would this be an EHD round without? That first combination is a pretty special one and especially because Johanna Howard cushion. The colors are amazing and the pattern feels modern, but in a really versatile way. And for his friend, who doesn’t like a small boucle -ball? Speaking of boucle, a large square is also a great style maverick if you want. It works with everything. And that small blue plaid treasure is a perfect companion. Finally, I wanted to give a more “coast” option that I know we probably won’t do enough. The structured look of the fabrics, with the soft beach -like tones, and nice brushes/edge are the embodiment of the dreamy coast. Please bring me to a beach now.

1. Beige cream and dark brown patchwork velvet with white pony + terre olive green velvet sphere thor -cushion | 2. Darla Thip Pillow + Popcorn Plaid Pillow | 3. High cotton thaw pillow + burnt green pillow sum
Don’t worry, I also have green! These combos are a bit more varied in styles 🙂 The first is absolutely on the trendier side, but also just very cool. That checkered pillow is handmade and amazing. For a more modern traditional feeling, Combo #2 is a great mix of patterns and their scale. But they are both beautifully calm (but not boring). The last combo is for my MOD lovers. Again, I wanted to play with pattern scale and that little lumbar is so great with his Teeny embroidered design.

1. Moody decor sofa pillowcase + velvet clover pillow | 2. Reversible Liza Pillow + Sweeney Half-Disc Cushion | 3. Sofia linen Kisses + Kohta cushion
I couldn’t play with a few more forms. I think Beds are the perfect place to have fun in terms of cushion shape, because, unlike bank cushions, you really don’t spend much time leaning them … So let’s get a bit wild, yes? From the moment I saw Sarah Sherman Samuel’s Clover Pillow for the first time, I thought it was great. It is cool but very erratic. You are an undoubtedly cool person if you have that pillow on your bed. And of course I love the style contrast of that beautiful traditional carpet cushion. Now I really love a “taco” pillow. But what is so nice about this is that it has a great pattern. I feel that they usually have a solid color. Finally, while the forms of Combo #3 are standard, the square handle -like trim on the larger cooling Bonkers is cool. And what is a nice contrast with squares? Circles of course. If you have an earthy tight room, one or both pillows would look sick.

1. Schoolhouse x Rachel Murray Flower-Bolster Pillow | 2. Artigo brown leather lumbar cushion 3. Moroccan woven oversized lumbar pillow | 4. Bettie Light Bruin Velvet Lumbar Pillow | 5. Alcove pillow twilight | 6. Pharterly Stripe Linen Long Bolster cushion
So while I am sitting on the two pillow train, a long lumbar is also a slam dunk. Here are six of our current favorites. That school building is so good!
Ah, I hope that was fun and you might give a small bedding inspection. Sometimes a small decorative change can be surprisingly impactful. And if buying new pillows is not in the budget or you just don’t have the wish, you might play with the pillows in your house! Maybe a bank cushion for a bed cushion. It’s free, easy and very allowed 🙂
I love you, mean it.
