Almost half a million images were submitted to this year’s Sony World Photography Awards, organized by the World Photography OrganizationMarking a very competitive, awesome selection of moments that have been trapped all over the world. Now in his 18th year, more than 419,000 contributions rolled from more than 200 countries.
The photos shown here are all submissions in the open competition, which invites amateur image makers from all over the world to submit their best compositions. Additional competition flows, for which many of these images are also considered, emphasize the work of professionals, students, specific regions, women and young people.

The competition “celebrates the ability of an individual photo to capture and distilling a single moment, and to evoke a broader story,” says a statement.
